SHARYN (Settles) WILLIS

I was born on November 3, 1950 in Edison, Georgia. I am the oldest child of Moncree and June Settles.

I had a normal childhood. I remember my Daddy drove a rolling store and I would ride along with .him on his route. We would eat sardines and soda crackers for lunch. I really enjoyed those times.

When I was about 5 or 6 years old, I once was attacked by a Blue jay. I found a baby bird on the ground and picked it up. Well, that mama didn't like that too much and she pecked my on the head as I was running to the house. To this day, I am still wary of Blue jays.

Another time, Mama and Aunt Annie Lou took us kids to an old swimming pool for a picnic (Nancy's Springs, I believe). I jumped in the water and all these little black worms were swimming around and sticking out their tongues. I was playing with them when Mama told me to get out of the water,. Well, they were not worms at all, they were water moccasins. I still can't figure out why they didn't bite me.

When I was 9 years old, I came down with Rheumatic fever and had to stay in bed for three months.

We moved to Warner Robins, Georgia in 1960

One Christmas, we were planning a trip to Mama and Papa's house in Edison. The day before we were to leave my brothers were cleaning the car and found some matches. They decided to burn the paper instead of putting it in the trash can. Well, that's one trip that was cancelled because there was no car to go in. Thanks goodness some men came by in a furniture truck and pulled Mike and Robby out of the burning car,

In the summer, I would often go to Edison and visit my grandparents. I would stay with Aunt Annie Lou and Uncle Albert and my cousin, Wanda. I loved hanging around her. I have many fond memories of those times.

Some years I would go from our family reunion on vacation with Uncle Gordon, Aunt Isabel, Gail and Bobby. I loved those times. We would go to the Smoky Mountains and camp out. I remember swimming in the cold mountain streams and visiting the Indians in Cherokee, North Carolina.

My parents were divorced in 1963 and my brothers and I lived with our mother.

Christmas time in 1963, My Uncle J. R. and Aunt Rushie picked us all up and took us to Edison for the holidays I was waiting for my brothers to go to sleep to help out with Santa. All of a sudden we heard bells ringing and a "HO HO HO and in walked Santa. He gave us all presents and we had a great Christmas. Although I've never been told who it was that was Santa, but I think I know  who it was. It was a very memorial Christmas and I've never forgotten it.

I have the best Aunts and Uncles and they have always done special things for us.

I started working in a restaurant in 1968 and worked there until 1983. I had a few jobs in between but not for long enough to count. For the most part I worked in the restaurant.

On June 28, 1974 I had a beautiful baby girl who I named Natasha Dawn.

In 1982, I met Robert (Bill) Willis and we started dating. We were engaged in 1983 and married June 14, 1985.

Bill is from Unionville, Pennsylvania and is one of nine children of Robert and Amy Willis. I never met Mrs. Willis as she passed away before Bill and I met. Bill is a truck driver and works for Advanced Drainage Systems. We live in Warner Robins, Georgia.

In 2001, I met Cindy Wrich who became a close friend. She had a Karaoke business and I started going with her to her shows. At times, I would fill in for her and I learned the business.

She quit working at the Lounge (Bahama Bobs) and I took over. I now have my own business and I am doing really well. I've always wanted to be involved in music, so now I have a great job and am very fulfilled.

My daughter and her husband have gifted me with 2 beautify grandchildren, Robert (R.J.) and Katelyn, so my life is good and I am very happy.

There were, in my past, some trying times which I have left out. I chose to remember the good and look forward to the future.
