MARS HILL RITES HELD

FOR

LUTHER J. BROOKS


The funeral service for Luther J. Brooks, 68, a well-known retired farmer of this section who died Monday, April 25 after a long illness, was held Tuesday at the Mars Hill Primitive Baptist Church near Edison. Last rites were conducted by the Elder W. S. Etheridge of Ozark, Ala., who was assisted by the Elder W. H. Hancock of Macon and the Elder W. I. Kelly, pastor. Burial followed in the church cemetery.


Mr. Brooks had been in ill health for the past five years. His death occured at the Hattaway Clinic and is passing grieves scores of friends and relatives in this section.


Mr. Brooks was born and reared in Clay County, four miles west of Edison, where he resided all his life. He had joined the Mars Hill Church in early manhood, and was faithful in all its activies, having served as a deason for more than 25 years.


Mr. Brooks' first marriage was to Miss Trudie King of Blufftion, who died fourteen years ago. From that union three childen survived, Willie Claud Brooks and Mrs. Wesley Rish of near Edison and Mrs. Rufus Blackshere of Dothan,Ala.

In late years Mr. Brooks married the former Mrs Viola Byrd of ozard, Ala., who survives him. Other survivors include three step children, Mrs. Sanford Ferguson of near Edison, Lt. Lloyd B. Byrd of Panama Canal Zone and Otis E. Byrd of Dothan; two sisters, Miss Lonnie Brooks and Mrs. Rufus Lee of near Edison.


Sympathy of friends is extended the family in their sorrow.

RESOLUTIONS OF RESPECT



Whereas it has pleased God in his infinite wisdon and mercy to take from our midst on Apri 25, 1949, our dear brother and deacon, Luther J. Brooks: we, Mars Hill Primitive Baptist Church, bow in humble submission to his will, who doeth all things well. We extend our sincere sympath to his companion and children. We know that his sufferings in this life are over, and that his spirit is basking in the sunlight of God's presence, in whom he trusted while he lived. Brother Brooks was born May 2, 1881, and departed this life, April 25, 1949, making his stay here about 67 years. He joined Mars Hill Church June 14, 1902, and was a faitful member for nearly 47 years. On Jan. 17,1925, he was ordained deacon and served faithfully until his death, ever looking to the interest of the cause and his church.



Resolved, That we place a copy of this resolution on our church books, send a copy to the family, and one to the GOOD WILL Primitive Baptist paper for publication. Done by order of the church while in conference.

EDISON, April 27 - Funeral services were held at Mars Hill Primitive Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon for Luther J. Brooks, 68, a well-known retired farmer of this section The rites were conducted by the Elder W. S. Etheridge, Of Ozark, Ala, assisted by the Elder W. H Hancock of Macon, and Elder W. I. He died Monday afternoon at the Hattaway Clinic, foll0owing an extended illness.

Mr. Brooks' first marriage was to Miss Trudie King, of Bluffton, who ied 14 years ago. From that union three children survive: Willie Claud Brooks, and Mrs. Weley Rish, of near Edison: and Mrs Rufus Blackshere, of Dothan, Ala.

In later years, Mr. Brooks married Mrs. Viola Byrd of Ozark, Ala., who survives him. Other survivors include three step-children, Mrs.Sanford Fergusen, of near Edison, Lt. Lloyd B.
