James Robert (Jim) Brooks, Sr. (Daddy or Pa Pa to most of us) was born in Clay County on June 13, 1889. He was the fourth of seven children born to Thomas Nelson and Eunice (Pate) Brooks. He was raised as a country boy, performing typical tasks common to farms of the time.

On Sunday,  August 13, 1911, he married Lonie Mae Holloway, daughter of Marion and Alice Holloway.  Lonie was born and raised on a farm owned by her parents two miles southeast of Edison.

She was born in the front bedroom of the house which was owned by her father. Ninety percent of the births at that time were in the home. This home was later owned for years by George and Daisy (Holloway) Stevens and has now been remodeled and enlarged into a modern country home and is owned and occupied by Randy and Staci Ragan.

Jim and Lonie lived in a small farm house 1/4 mile south of the Holloway home. For several years thereafter, they lived in the immediate vicinity and where their first five children were born

Their first child, ALBERT LEE BROOKS, was born there on Thursday, August 21, 1913. They lived in or around Edison all their lived except for about three years when they lived in St. Augustine, Florida. Albert died on Monday, February 19, 1973 and is buried near other family members n the Salem Baptist Church cemetery.

Their second child, ALICE EUNICE BROOKS, was born here on Tuesday, July 30, 1918. After having lived only a few months, Alice died on Saturday, May 3, 1919 at 2 am. and is buried at Salem Baptist church cemetery.
