DEATH OF A BABY

Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Brooks, who live a short distance south of Edison, have the sympathy of hosts of friends in their extremely sad bereavement on account of the death of their little ten months old baby girl, Alice, who died last Friday night about 2 o'clock, after a long and tedious illness.

The little child suffered an attack of stomach trouble several weeks ago and her condition soon grew very serious. Hope was entertained for her recovery up to a short time before the end came, when all the medical aid and loving care that had been administered to her seemed to be of no avail.

The precious little flower which had been allowed to bloom for a brief season in the home where it was a source of devotion and inspiration was plucked from its loving parents and transplanted among the angels in Heaven, where she stands with outstretched hands beckoning loved ones to meet her there where no farewell tears are ever shed.

The remains were carried to Salem Church Saturday afternoon, where the funeral services were held, conducted the Rev. W. D. Hammack, and then laid to rest in the cemetery there.

The News joins their many friends in offering condolence to the heart-broken parents and other relatives.

(I was told Mama wrote this for the paper.)

If I knew it would be the last time
that I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep

For as long as I can remember,

Mama had this picture hanging

on the wall in the hall just inside the front door.

As a twig trembles, which a bird
lights on to sing, then leaves unbent,
So is my memory thrilled and stirred,
I only Know she came and went.

Oh, when the room grows slowly dim,
and life's last oil is nearly spent,
One gush of light these eyes will brim,
only to think she came and went.

Little Alice Brooks was born, Tuesday, July 30, 1918, and died Saturday, May 3, 1919 making her stay with Papa, Mamma & brother 9 months and 3 days. A very short while for one we loved so well.

She was but a bud on earth to bloom in heaven. But God saw fit to pluck our little darling from us, leaving our arms and hearts empty of a little baby girl. And we hope some day to meet her, where we'll never say good-by and nothing will mar our joys.

A precious one from us is gone. A voice we loved is stilled. A place is vacant in our home that can never can be filled. We loved our little darling better than we loved our own lives, but the Savior loved her too and he gathers his jewels home in his own good time.

He offers us a good chance of meeting her there if only we live up to the Master's command. If it wasn't for the hope we entertain for meeting our loved ones there, we could never stand the sorrows and troubles of this sinful, sorrowful world.

But the Lord giveth and He taketh away, Blessed be the name of the Lord. He doeth all things well, but we can't see our troubles in that way now. But someday we may understand the leading of the Almighty Hand.

           WE WILL BE TOGETHER FOREVER
